Diving Medicine

Diving is an awe-inspiring experience, giving you access to a truly unique view of the world.

To enjoy the underwater world safely and with minimal stress, your medical assessment should be carried out by a doctor experienced in diving medicine. Dr Keyoren's years of experience in diving and hyperbaric medicine ensure that you receive a comprehensive and personalised assessment, and leave with an understanding of how to dive safely with your medical history.

The diving medical assessment meets regulatory requirements for Recreational (SPUMS/AS4005.1) or Occupational (AS/NZS 2299.1) diving.

What It Involves

• Medical history: Screening and advice for conditions that could increase risks in and under the water (e.g. asthma, heart disease, diabetes)
• Spirometry (Lung function testing)
• Audiometry / Tympanometry (Hearing and middle ear function testing)
• Physical examination: Focus on vision, ENT, lungs, heart, neurological and overall fitness
• Discussion: At the end of your dive medical, Dr Keyoren will discuss the general risks of diving along with any other risks specific to your personal medical history. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have – and if time permits, exchange a few dive stories!

If any additional testing is required, this can be arranged at the time of your dive medical consultation (or beforehand, if you're going diving in the near future).

Please call our clinic on 07 3543 7096 to book an appointment.
After making your booking, we will email you with the information and advice to ensure your dive medical runs smoothly and get you in the water as soon as possible!

Travel Medicine

We focus on keeping people healthy before, during, and after overseas travel. This includes risk assessment for specific destinations and providing tailored medical advice, vaccinations and medications to prevent and treat illness abroad.

Proper travel preparation makes for a safer trip with less hassles abroad - it can prevent illness, hospitalisation and long-term complications. Some countries also require proof of vaccination (e.g. Yellow Fever) for entry.

What It Involves

A travel medicine consultation typically includes:

• Destination-specific advice: Health risks vary depending on the region e.g. malaria in tropical areas, altitude sickness in mountainous regions, or food and water-borne illnesses in developing countries.
• Vaccinations: Common travel vaccines include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Meningitis, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis and Cholera.
• Medications for travel: Including malaria prophylaxis, traveller's diarrhoea treatment and altitude sickness prevention.
• Health and safety planning: Guidance on insect bite prevention, food and water hygiene, DVT prevention, managing jet lag and avoiding injuries.
• Post-travel consultation: For unwell returned travellers or those needing follow-up.

We recommend booking appointment times based on your itinerary and medical history:

Less than 5 countries / No significant Medical history: 30 mins
5 or more countries / Significant Medical history / Extreme/Adventure travel: 45 mins
